Biographical Sketch
Dr. Amit Bernstein received a B.A. in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology as a NIH Research Service Award Fellow at the University of Vermont. Dr. Bernstein completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral clinical psychology internship at the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System, and a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Center for Health Care Evaluation at the VA Palo Alto. He is now a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Haifa, in Israel, and the Director of the International Research Collaborative on Anxiety. Dr. Bernstein's research interests include: the etiology and maintenance of anxiety psychopathology (PTSD, panic), anxiety and substance use comorbidity, trans-diagnostic risk and protective factors and processes, experimental psychopathology, behavioral and cognitive-behavioral intervention and prevention, and cross-national and cross-cultural research. Dr. Bernstein has taught a variety of courses related to psychopathology, assessment, treatment and clinical research. He is currently teaching graduate courses on Child/Adolescent and Adult Behavior and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, and a research seminar on vulnerability, anxiety and addiction. Finally, Dr. Bernstein is committed to empirically-supported psychotherapy, mainly behavioral and cognitive-behavioral (CBT) treatment and preventive approaches, such as acceptance-based behavior therapies. His clinical internship training focused on evidence-based treatment for posttraumatic stress and comorbid disorders, substance use-psychopathology comorbidity, personality disorders, and chronic mental illness.
