ד"ר מוטי צ'רטר הוא חוקר במדעי הסביבה ואקולוג עופות, המתמקד במערכות אקולוגיות טבעיות וחקלאיות ובממשק בין פעילות האדם לסביבה. מחקריו עוסקים בהשפעות סביבתיות של ניהול חקלאי וקונפליקטים בין אדם לחיות בר.
עבודתו בוחנת במיוחד את השפעות השימוש ברעלים להדברת מכרסמים (Rodenticides) על חיות בר, עופות דורסים, טורפים בינוניים וחתולי בית, וכן את ההשלכות הישירות והעקיפות על שרשראות מזון ובריאות אקולוגית. מחקריו תורמים לפיתוח חלופות בנות קיימא לניהול מזיקים ולקידום פתרונות מבוססי טבע, ומשמשים בסיס להמלצות ניהול ומדיניות סביבתית.
